Bea Reseigh - Statement

The birds and laser cut pieces correspond to the issue of size and the nature of jewellery. I believe they are a cohesive group, but also have individual identities.
The body of work originated from the research I undertook whilst reading The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir.
It had a profound effect on my understanding of the position I held as the eldest girl within the structure of my family, therefore leading me to create this set of work.
The Young Girl resonated my own memories. The jewellery is therefore extremely autobiographical. Each entitled, describing an occurrence, a fractured memory or feeling, which stems from my past.
The body of work is a collection of autonomous objects, which reason and evaluate my past and my memories, emerging as tangible objects, which I believe instil new memories into the material world of substance.
The diverse materials and techniques employed are both traditional and contemporary, anticipating I hope a new set of aesthetics to emerge.
