Statement

I spent a month travelling and trekking and three months on an artist's residency in Morocco during 2002/03. The experience was overwhelmingly seductive. I spent time in the vast landscape of Jebel Sarhro and in the beautiful apricot coloured sands of the Mezouga Desert. I also lived in the crush and ferment of the old medina of Marrakech. During this time, I discovered that highly pigmented colours and strong geometric design underpin Morrocan life. Colour is seen as both a talisman against bad luck and evil spirits as well as a celebration of the natural world.

Inspired and probably changed forever, I came home and introduced strong colour and new ideas into the glass work that I was already making as part of my fine art practice. For the time being, I am concentrating purely on my glass work which for the moment, falls into the category of Functional.
